Locksmith Alpharetta, LLC: What To Do To Prevent Lockouts
Preventing lockouts isn’t too difficult, but many fail to take the appropriate steps to do so. Unfortunately, many people wait until they manage to get locked out, before they look into how to prevent lockouts in the future. If this has happened to you, you are sure to feel stressed out. No matter where you are, whether outside your home, vehicle or office, you don’t want to have to wait hours for help to arrive. Luckily, there are many locksmiths across the country who provide 24/7 emergency assistance.
We are Locksmith Alpharetta, LLC and we serve customers in and around Alpharetta, Georgia. We are proud to have been able to assist so many people thus far who have become locked out of their property. We want to use our experience to help you to prevent this from happening to you. Here, we are going to go over some tips to prevent lockouts. Just remember, if you are in a bind, a locksmith should be able to help you.
We have heard it all – “I got to work and realized my key is no longer on my keyring. I can’t get into the building. The only other individual with a key is out of town. I wish I had gone keyless! What am I supposed to do? I have to open my business!”
“I got home from a night out with friends and my house key is missing! I don’t know if it was stolen or if it fell off my key ring somewhere. How can I get back into my home without breaking a window? Should I have the locks rekeyed?”
“My key is stuck in my lock. I can’t get it out! But I also can’t get inside. What should I do?”
These are just some of the scenarios that our locksmiths have heard. Every single one of these aforementioned situations was preventable, at least to some degree. No one ever has to get locked out, but of course, if your key is taken from you, there might not have been much you could do to prevent it. So how do you stop yourself from being locked out?
- Recite a mantra whenever you are going somewhere. You might simply tell yourself, “grab the keys” or something similar. If you carry a purse, remember to say this whenever you reach for your purse. If it’s your wallet you are reaching for, the same notion applies. Getting into this habit will help prevent you from getting locked out due to forgetting your keys. On this same note, keep a copy of your key in your purse or in your wallet.
- Provide a family member, nearby friend, or someone else you trust with a copy of your key. Yes, a copy of your key can be left under your front door mat, but this could be predictable to someone trying to break into your property. You might want to leave a copy of your key somewhere less obvious. You can even buy certain decorative pieces in which you can hide or conceal your key. But providing a copy to someone in the area who you trust can always be useful.
- Go keyless! Going keyless can allow you to get into your property simply using a code. All you have to do is remember this code. You can keep it hidden in your phone if you tend to be forgetful or have too many passcodes to remember. Keyless entry systems come in many options and they are available at various price points. You should do some research or ask a locksmith what they recommend.
- As previously mentioned, keep a key copy on you. Whether you want to keep it in your wallet or your purse, it’s not a bad idea to have an extra key on you.
- Have another way of getting in, in case you can’t find your key. Have you thought about having a wireless keypad installed outside of your garage? This way, you could keep a copy of your key inside of your property, but you can still access the inside of your property through an alternate entry.
- Get a key finder. There are different types of key finders, but we will go over one to give you a better idea of how they work. We will focus on the Stick N’ Find. This is basically something that you attach to your key ring, and you download an app to your smartphone that corresponds with said device. If you find that you are in a situation in which your keys are nowhere to be found, open up the app in your phone. You will be provided with a map detailing where your keys are located.
You can avoid a future lockout by being prepared. Double checking your door and making sure you have your key in your hand is an easy thing to forget to do, but it’s a wise idea to do it. This way, if you go to walk out, you will realize right away that something is off. Getting into certain habits takes time, but it is worth doing. We highly recommend duplicating your key so that you always have access to another copy, whether that is through a hiding place or through a person that you know you can count on.
Remember, if you find yourself locked out, and you really have no way of getting back inside, you can call a locksmith for help.
If you are in our service area, we have experts who are mobile, local and ready to help you. Keep the number of a locksmith near you saved so you can access them quickly in the event of an emergency. Locksmiths should be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Now that you know how to prevent lockouts, we hope you never find yourself locked out again! But just remember, help is only a phone call away.

What To Do If Your Safe Jams
You might think that all hope is gone if you should happen to jam your safe. However, this is not true. There are those who simply don’t get their safe unjammed because they feel that it will cost them an arm and a let to do so. This, also, is not true. Television movies would have you to believe that it takes a professional thief to gain access into a safe but we have locksmiths at Locksmith Alpharetta, LLC in Alpharetta, GA who are able to effectively assist you.
No Hammer Needed
Not every safe is built the same. There are some that are built better than others. These are the ones that you think might not jam up on you but anything that is manmade can be flawed. Unfortunately, when someone gets their safe jammed, they resort to taking drastic measures to open it again. This only makes the problem worse. What often occurs is that they damage the locking mechanism and this means that they can no longer use the safe again. Often times, when they attempt to handle this on their own, they damage the contents inside. Instead of taking matters into your own hands, why not give our locksmiths at Locksmith Alpharetta, LLC a call. We have been able to help thousands of people who find themselves in the same situation. If you have a jammed safe then you may not have access to necessary paperwork, money or valuable jewelry that you want and need. You might have to gain access to your safe in a hurry, such as a gun safe. If the safe jams then you are in trouble. If you need to get out birth certificates or a death certificate, you can’t afford to continue putting off getting the safe fixed. Don’t put it off another day. If you have a safe that is jammed, contact us today to take care of this matter for you.
Seeking Professional Help
Obtaining professional help may seem expensive but we reassure you that with the help of a locksmith, you’ll receive affordable safe unlocking services. Choose the right safe service and you’ll be able to receive the help that you need. There are definitely some safe shops out there that would love your business but they don’t offer you the help you need at a price you can afford. There are those that even require you to bring them the safe rather than coming to service the safe from where it is located. You will find that most commercial locksmith services offer safe unlocking services. When you choose a reputable locksmith service, they likely have a locksmith who has the correct tools needed to effectively unlock your safe. They will be able to unlock the safe without damaging the contents of what is inside. This is what makes them a great choice when you have a safe that is jammed.
When contacting a professional locksmith service, you should have some information on hand that they will need to gather from you. They will usually ask you for the model type. If you have ever had any type of maintenance performed on your safe, they may want to know if you have access to the report so that they will know what was performed. This information gives them some idea of what might be causing the problem. Every safe has a serial number. You should have your serial number and the brand name written down so that you can provide them to the person you are depending on to help unlock the safe.
Electronic Safes
If you contact a locksmith then you’ll need to know if you have an electronic lock or if you have a safe. Electronic safes are also called digital safes and they offer a great deal of security. However, they also occasionally break down. The more parts that they have, the more of a probability of them experiencing some type of problem. When you are unable to open the safe, you have to ask yourself whether or not the safe is jammed or you simply forgot the code. If you don’t remember the code, one of our locksmiths can still get you into the safe again, as they have the necessary tools and equipment needed to safely and effectively get into your safe. There are some electronic safes with built-in locking mechanisms when someone attempts to open the safe too many times. This was designed to prevent unauthorized entry. It’s similar to entering your bank account password too many times. When this happens, you may be prevented from gaining access until you contact an administrator. This system helps to protect your safe firm burglary and attempts to access your electronic safe from a remote location.
You could have a short in your safe that may cause it to jam or a possible power source may be down and preventing you from opening the safe.
If you are not having any type of maintenance performed on your safe then you risk the possibility of experiencing problems with your safe sticking. A locksmith can also provide you with the necessary maintenance that you might need for your safe to prevent it from jamming.
If you buy a safe from an estate sale or an auction they are usually sealed shut and come with some type of key code or combination code. You can gain access into the safe with the help of a skilled locksmith. They will be able to get inside with damaging what is inside the safe.
Since a safe helps to protect your valuables, it’s important that you invest in its care and maintenance if you wish to continue to be able to effectively use the safe. It doesn’t matter the type of safe you have, a locksmith can help you gain access inside again.

Various Lock and Key Types You Should Know
The locks we use for our homes and businesses can have a great impact on our overall security, protection, and sense of safety. To ensure you and your family members, as well as your assets are kept safe, the kind of locks you choose is important. The following article will review the most popular lock types available on the market today for homeowners and business owners alike to choose from in order to enhance their security. Consider how adding one of the following lock types to your home might benefit you. You might even find that replacing your locks for newer or different models may also be a good option.
Knob Locks
You are likely already familiar with knob locks. Interior doors in homes and businesses often use knob locks for security measures without heavy duty hardware. Knob locks look like standard door knobs, except they have the ability to be locked. Unlike deadbolts, they typically do not have a key slot on one side. Usually, a simple turn switch is embedded into the knob itself. This allows homeowners to lock bedroom and bathroom doors while the space is in use and privacy is required.
Deadbolts
Deadbolts are by far the most popular option for homeowners when it comes to securing their exterior doors. More often than not, you will see deadbolt locks on front doors and other entryways. These locks come with a corresponding key and key slot on one side of the lock, while the other side contains the switch that is used to lock the deadbolt. This allows for protection and security when one is inside their home and the ability to securely lock one’s home when they leave. These types of deadbolts are known as single cylinder deadbolts and are the most popular kind.
Another type of deadbolt lock that is not nearly as common is known as a double cylinder deadbolt. This type of deadbolt lock has a key slot on both sides. Instead of having a turn knob on the interior side of the deadbolt to lock the door from the inside, there is a key slot instead. This means that a key is required regardless of which side of the door one is on in order to lock it. Double cylinder deadbolt locks are more secure than single cylinder but are not nearly as convenient.
Handle Sets
These door locks are similar to single cylinder deadbolt locks, except the deadbolt portion and the handle portion are separated. Some homeowners prefer these types of locks since they are more decorative and visually appealing to some people. The handles tend to be long and large, while the deadbolt portion is flat and no bigger than a standard doorknob. Depending on the exterior design of one’s home or one’s personal preference, handle sets can add a lot of quality to the exterior look of one’s home.
Handle Levers
These locks are great for interior doors. Some homeowners may want handle lever locks on their front or entry doors, as well, but it is not recommended as a standalone. Hand lever locks work similarly to knob locks and have similar features. However, these locks are much easier to operate. Instead of twisting a knob, one simply has to push down on the lever lock and push to open a door. A small twist knob and key slot sit in the main part of the lever lock on either side allow homeowners to lock the door behind them when leaving or use the twist knob to secure their homes while inside.
Barrel Bolt Locks
Some homeowners may prefer additional security to protect their homes in conjunction with a standard deadbolt lock or other hardware. Barrel bolt locks are a great option for adding security to one’s front door. These locks are easy to install and work via a sliding lock that prevents the door from being opened, even if the deadbolt is unlocked. This is a great option for homeowners that are concerned about lock-picking or someone breaking their deadbolt lock. Barrel bolts may also be beneficial for bedroom, office, or bathroom doors within one’s home if homeowners do not want to install a brand-new door knob or handle to a given door.
Chain Locks
Similar to barrel bolt locks, you might consider a chain lock. These locks work just like barrel bolt locks, except they use a chain instead of a sliding mechanism. With chain locks, one can essentially open their door without unlocking it. Homeowners can speak to and see whoever is at their front door while still being protected behind a locked door.
Electronic or Smart Locks
For optimal protection, the best locks to purchase are electronic or smart locks. These kinds of locks are tamper-proof and do a great job of securing properties. Homeowners can take ultimate control of their security through the use of electronic locks. The features included in most electronic locks allow families to remotely unlock or lock their doors, allow access for visitors, connect their electronic locks to additional security systems, keep a record of who comes in and leaves the home, and other perks. For the best protection and security, home locks are the way to go.
